Stiletto fans rejoice - the biggest Christian Louboutin shoe boutique in the north has opened at Selfridges in Manchester.

The designer shoes, famous for their bright red souls and towering heels, are beloved of WAGs and celebrities everywhere.

Indeed, Manchester United style queen WAG Coleen Rooney is rarely seen on a night out without a pair of the vertiginous heels.

Now, fashionistas will be able to browse the French designer’s wares in over 100 different styles at Selfridges, which has the exclusive rights to selling the desirable label in the north.

Yep, that means they’re no longer available in rival posh shop Harvey Nichols, or even at Selfridges’ sister store in Trafford - they’re all based in the supersnazzy new £3mn shoe department at Exchange Square.

The boutique, with plush red carpets and birdcage-like frameworks, has been inspired by the elegance of 19th to 20th century Parisian architecture, such as the Musée d’Orsay and the Eiffel Tower.

Style-savvy men (and plenty of footballers) will also be pleased to hear that it’s not just the ladies getting their fill of the footwear - there’s also a full range of mens’ Louboutins available at the boutique.

Daring chaps can snap up a pair of Strass crystal encrusted high top trainers for a snip at £2,000, or a pair of brightly studded loafers for £850.

Ladies have long known the charms of the Louby, and bosses tell me that here in Manchester it’s the 120mm heel (that’s 4.5 inches in old money) that’s the biggest seller.

They have also recently introduced the “hot chick” style which is their highest ever at 130mm - which sold out as soon as it came into stock.

Their best selling style remains the original pigalle design, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and is priced from £425. More daring (and wealthy) can also pick up the new crystal-encrusted styles which cost around £2,500 a pair.

For the really, really rich shopper, there’s also the option of “special orders” where individual designs can be made to your personal requirement, which is organised by appointment only.

Jane Sharrocks, General Manager of Selfridges Exchange Square, said: “Christian Louboutin is a brand that engages our customer like no other, so we are delighted to be welcoming this brand new concept to Selfridges.”

The Louboutin department joins a host of new designer emporiums on the second floor womenswear department which have opened this week, including Givenchy, Valentino and Balenciaga.

It’s part of a £3mn revamp of the floor, which has transformed the shoe department into the biggest outside of London.

The floor plays host to a number of leading designers including Alaïa, Balmain, Alexander McQueen, Rick Owens, Victoria Beckham, Saint Laurent, Roland Mouret, Stella McCartney, Moschino, Robert Cavalli, Peter Pilotto and more.

And if you can’t quite afford a pair of Louboutins just yet, there is the prospect of buying into the brand at a slightly more reasonably-priced level from August 1 - when Mr Louboutin’s beauty line, which includes his rather splendid nail polishes, will arrive in store.

Christian Louboutin Mingles With SF’s Fashion Set At Shop Party

Anyone who still believes that San Francisco is not a fashion city is severely mistaken; whenever an internationally acclaimed fashion designer comes to town, the stylish set come out in droves. Such was the case last week when Christian Louboutin whirled into SF. The beloved shoe designer made a rare appearance at his namesake Maiden Lane boutique. The store was packed to the brim with people eager to meet the French cobbler. Louboutin was fashionably late—he showed up around 7:15 p.m. (the party started at 6 p.m.) and started to greet the enthusiastic crowd.

Louboutin posed for pictures and mingled, kindly answering questions. The majority of Louboutin’s shoes are heels—the designer doesn’t make too many flats—and all of his shoes have an unmistakable shiny red sole. Although it may seem like a genius marketing technique, the red sole was not a well thought out creative plan. In 1992, Louboutin realized that his shoes didn’t live up to his designs. He felt the actual shoe lacked some of the pizzaz that was in the drawing. During a moment of frustration, his assistant happened to be painting her nails red. Louboutin spontaneously grabbed the red nail polish and painted the sole of one of his prototypes red. Bam! The shoe finally had that special something he was looking for. The rest is history. Today, the red sole is synonymous for Louboutin and is a protected trademark.

The Ruinart Champagne flowed while the lively crowd tried on shoes and shopped Louboutin’s latest collection. Chunky-heeled velvet booties, gorgeous red satin stilettos with ballet shoe ribbons, and brown calf-skin pumps were a few of our favorite shoes on display. How should a San Francisco girl deal with wearing his heels while walking up and down the city’s many hills? “Every girl should have an extra pair of shoes in her purse,” Louboutin told Haute Living. Perhaps every girl should have a pair of his sequined tennis shoes in her purse? Notables in attendance included Sonya Molodetskaya, Rada Katz, Claudia Mata, Emily Holt, and Samantha Duvall Bechtel.
